BEIJING – 7 December 2017 – The Beijing Axis hosted the South Africa Inc Breakfast on Thursday, December 7, at the Library Room of The Capital Club in Beijing. Associate Professor Mills Soko, Director of the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) was the Guest of Honor. Also in attendance was Her Excellency Ambassador Dolana Msimang, representatives from the South African Embassy and members of the South African business community.

Kobus van der Wath, Founder & Group Managing Director of The Beijing Axis, kicked off the breakfast by welcoming the attendees and outlining the purpose of the breakfast.

Director Soko addressed the gathering, sharing his perspectives on the current China-Africa relations, and listed potential avenues that Africa can further harness to enable a more ‘win-win’ relationship. The Director also provided an overview of the school’s future plans to support the diplomatic ties between South Africa and China, and Africa at large.

Ambassador Msimang took the floor and gave an update of high-level strategic imperatives. She welcomed the GSB’s planned initiatives and urged all stakeholders to champion the SA brand, reiterating the importance of continued cooperation.

Mr Malele of Brand South Africa gave a quick update of Brand SA’s initiatives in China, and enticed the gathering with the upcoming publication of research done to understand China’s perceptions of South Africa.

The SA Inc gatherings are informal fora organized by The Beijing Axis, which serve to gather the South African business community and other stakeholders together to discuss the current condition of South Africa-China relations, to examine the state of the Chinese economy, and for networking.
