Mr. Wang Shouwen, the Vice Minister of MOFCOM China, and Mr. Ricardo Melendez-Ortiz, Chief Executive of the International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), gave speeches during the event.

Beijing, 12 May 2017 - The Beijing Axis attended the BRICS workshop on “Key Policy Considerations for BRICS Trade and Investment Cooperation in 2017 and Beyond” on Friday, May 12, at the Beijing Jianguo Garden Hotel. This event was jointly organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), Beijing Normal University (BNU) and the BRICS Universities League.

China will host the BRICS Summit in Xiamen on September 2017. It will be an opportunity to progress in both implementing existing proposals and developing new ideas for further economic cooperation. The objective of this workshop is to discuss possible ways to further advance BRICS trade and investment cooperation so as to bolster market integration within the group, as well as to contribute to open, inclusive and cooperative trade and investment system at the global level.

The workshop was attended by a select number of individuals representing various organizations and industry sectors of the 5 member countries – Brazil’s Vale Minerals, Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, India’s Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, China’s COSCO Shipping, South Africa’s The Beijing Axis, to name a few. WANG Shouwen, Vice Minister of Commerce of China, and Ricardo Meléndez-Ortiz, Chief Executive of the ICTSD, welcomed the participants with their opening remarks.

Haiwei Huang, Managing Director of Axis Capital Advisory, attended the workshop and shared business insights with industry pioneers onsite.
