1. Egypt – January: Egypt has approved the establishment of a workers training academy as part of the many projects being undertaken in the new administrative capital. The 20.16 hectares allocated for the academy will serve to instruct Egyptian workers on advanced methods within the construction sector, aiming to equip them with the skills needed in the construction of the new capital. China State Construction Engineering Corporation shall operate the academy for a 7-year period, after which the New Urban Communities Authorities in Egypt shall take over.

2. Ethiopia – December: XCMG, a leading construction machinery manufacturer in China, has announced the commencement of the third stage of their African Water Cellar Project. The company has donated USD 643,119 as a joint donation with 26 suppliers to enable them to build 80 water cellars in Ethiopia. 40 of these are for family use, while another 40 are aimed to assist schools. XCMG has already built 81 water cellars in Ethiopia as part of previous projects, and is estimated to benefit over 6,700 people.

3. Ethiopia – December: Ethiopia has recently awarded a contract agreement to Chinese construction group China Railway Construction Corportation-21 Group(CRCC-21). The group shall construct a road in the country’s western region, an area that is a producer of one of the countries major export commodities; coffee. The project is being called the Jimma-Agaro-Dedesa Road project and has a budget set at USD 46 mn for the placing of 79km of road.

4. Kenya – December: Chinese firm Zhongcheng Import and Export Co. Ltd has signed a contract to build a medical facility in the Machakos County in Kenya. The deal was signed with Kenya’s Lianard Holding Ltd, and will see the development of the project named; “Kenya Lakeside Medical City Project”. The total project price is estimated at USD 47.8 mn

5. Democratic Republic of Congo – December: China’s Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co will invest USD 147.2 mn in a copper project in the DRC, as the company plans to extend the exploration capacity of their current mining assets. The project is estimated to have an annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes of electro-deposited copper. The material is used specifically in electrical equipment and machine manufacturing sectors.
